Adia Clark Lay Talks about "Go Fish"!

Adia Clark Lay released her recent single, "Go Fish", on Feb 26. As expected, it is a wonderful song that you should listen to immediately. I know it always makes me enjoy a song a little bit more if I know more about it. I bet you feel the same way! Thankfully, Adia was kind enough to answer some questions for us about the release.

Let's see what she had to say!

What do you want listeners to know about “Go Fish”?

Go Fish is the excuse you need to walk away from a relationship that is no longer serving you! YOU are the catch.

Do you have a favorite lyric from the song?

I would say my "favorite" part of the song is more a section as opposed to a lyric. The bridge has a very fun surprise for those who haven't listened to the full song yet!

How did you come up with the cover artwork?

The cover art took me a long time to come up with! I was trying to figure out a really creative way to show what the song was about. After hours on Pinterest trying to come up with an idea related to cards, I thought of the idea of having a fishing pole instead. That completely changed the idea I had in my head, so I spent a few more hours on Pinterest. Eventually I came up with the idea to merge the two and have a pool of cards beneath my feet with a card on the hook of the fishing pole (shoutout to my producer, Grable, for lending me the pole).

What was the biggest challenge when creating the song?

This song was actually written as a challenge to begin with. I write a lot of sad songs, so I was tasked by one of my favorite teahesr at Berklee College of Music, Isabeau Miller, to write a happy song. That's when I wrote Go Fish... not sure if it's happy but it's definitely upbeat! I also wanted to make sure I got both the "card game" and "fishing" references across without it being too much.

Do you have any favorite memories of the writing and recording process?

This project was made entirely with my extremely talented friends! The co-writers on the song, Grable Howie and Kate Brink, helped me bring my silly little idea to life. My best friend, Alexa Givens, helped me record the vocals. Grable also produced this entire track, playing every instrument, as well as arranging all the background vocals. The track was mixed and mastered by someone who has been my friend since the first semester of college, Griffin Tomaino. I am forever grateful for the hard work and dedication of my friends, this project wouldn't be what it is without them.

I could not love this release more!

As always, I want to thank Adia for taking the time to share this with us. It's always nice to be able to learn a bit more about a song.

Be sure to listen and follow along with her to see what she's up to. I would definitely follow her on Instagram, and/or Spotify. In fact, go do both right now!

Thanks again Adia Clark Lay!

"
Till They Do" - single by Cassandra

Release Date: August 2, 2024

What You Should Know: "This has been such a fun project to create as I blend my passions of opera and Pop music. This song could’ve taken a number of forms, but the theme of, “Till They Do,” came about like this:

1. I wanted to make a song with Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro”
2. That piece is written for a damsel in distress
3. I am not a damsel in distress and love female power anthems
4. Should there be mob wife vibes?? Yes. Crime of passion vibes??? Double yes.
5. @jasonthrem created this incredible track with my opera sample
6. @eitansnydermusic and I cooked up the fun lyrics in this song
7. After recording and the hundreds of steps it takes to make, record, and release a song, it now hits your ears!

Beyond proud of this one and hope you love it."

Adia Clark Lay Talks About Her EP!

Fresh off the release of her latest single, "Water My Flowers", Adia Clark Lay is already ready to treat us with an EP! "On the Rocks" is streaming NOW! In order to add that event, Adia was nice enough to answer a few questions for us about the release.

Let's see what she had to say!

What can you tell me about the EP?
The EP is my first big step into the country world and I couldn’t be more excited! I’d admired the country genre from afar for a long time, and I felt it was my time to jump in head first. The EP is a collection of songs that I’ve written over the past year; from my first country song ever (Right About You) to one of my more recent country songs (On The Rocks). Each song has a very specific story and are very special to me. They are meant to help people going through tough times, whether that’s with their partner, family, friends, at school, work, etc.

Do you have a favorite lyric from the EP?
My favorite lyric section off of the EP has to be the chorus of On The Rocks. I wrote this song over spring break and I actually had to do quite a bit of research about the “adult beverages” included in the lyrics haha! But I love how the song came out and how many references I was able to fit in the lyrics!

Can you talk a little about the writing process of the EP?
The writing process was quite different for each song actually. Right About You is the first track on the EP, as well as the first country song I had ever written. It took me about 2 years to even start writing this song. It is about a boy I dated in high school for three years, and he told me not to write a song about him. But as you know, if you date a songwriter and make her mad… she will eventually write a song about you. Water My Flowers and Caught In Traffic were actually written as assignments for my Lyric Writing class at Berklee College of Music. My professor, Kat Reinhert, gives the best assignments; they always get my creative ideas running.

What was your favorite part of the recording process?
The recording process was such an amazing experience. Off The Row studio, located just outside of Nashville, TN, reached out to me on Instagram after seeing a few of my videos and invited me down to record my EP. I was so excited, as I had never been to Nashville before. I got to meet and play with Grammy Award winning session musicians. They were so kind and incredibly talented; they added so much color to my songs. I also got to play a few open mics while I was in Nashville. I actually got invited back to headline a show at The Commodore Grille next time I’m in town!

I could not be more excited for the release!

As always, I want to thank Adia for taking the time to share this with us. It's always nice to be able to learn a bit more about an upcoming release.

Be sure to listen and follow along with her to see what she's up to. I would definitely follow her on Instagram, and/or Spotify. In fact, go do both right now!

Something Blue (song + video) is now out everywhere"
