Christiana Berenguer Visits Section 36!

Section 36 Music has another visitor! You may remember Christiana from her wonderful appearance at Fenway Park,

which she discussed here. Now I thought it would be fun
to talk all about her music. She recently moved to New York City to give a boost to her singing career, so I'm sure you're as anxious as I am to hear how that's gone and what she has coming up next.

So let’s see what happens when Christiana Berenguer visits Section 36!

You recently moved from Boston to New York City. What led to that change?
I have always wanted to live in NYC for as long as I can remember. I was obsessed with Juliard before I discovered Berklee and I did a lot of classical voice auditions in NYC in high-school. I got an Internship at Mac Presents in NYC and decided that this was the best place for me right now at this stage in my life and career.

You’ve been able to perform live on many occasions, including the memorable appearance at Fenway Park. What have you enjoyed about those shows?

Brian Doherty
I have always written my own music, recorded my own music and performed concerts in my bedroom since I was little. Being at Berklee really allowed me to participate in all kinds of performances in several genres. I love when I am standing up there in front of everyone singing because I feel proud that I am pursuing the dreams that I have had since I was young. I feel the same when walking city streets, or during studio sessions. I am happy that I stuck with something that I love, and that my hard work paid off.

Do you have any upcoming appearances you’re excited about?
Not YET but I just recorded a video demo to be able to perform at restaurants all around NYC, and I have some new music in the works with some amazing producers and writers.

I really enjoyed your music video to “Finding Me”. How was that to put together?
“Finding Me” was a very therapeutic song for me that I co wrote with my dear friend of Sleeping Lion, Nate Flaks and wonderful producer/ friend Adam Loeffler. I met the guys at Surefire Creative Studios through the owner at UFC gym that I attended and they really worked with me on pricing, visuals, theme and more. I was nervous at first filming something so professional but I was in my element really quickly. Most importantly, I was so proud of the exhausting rewarding hours that I put into it.

After the success of the “Finding Me” single, have you been doing any more studio work lately?
Yes yes absolutely! Finally settled into NYC and working with some amazing friends and producers on some tracks. Really trying to not be so hard on myself and just take it easy instead of stressing that I’m “too old” because I’m obviously not. Will update everyone soon :)

Right now, what would you say is your biggest career challenge?
My biggest career challenge right now is myself and the self doubt that I have had lately. I am afraid to write sometimes because I feel like what I write is crap and that I am never going to make it in such a populated industry. It’s all I’ve ever wanted so that’s TERRIFYING. My anxiety also tries to tell me I’m too old to be a famous touring pop musician because my idols started WAY younger. This is simply in my head and something I must work through, and I deal with it everyday.

What are your immediate career goals?
Put out a new single about the interesting stage I’m at in my life right now. I’m finally happy with who I am as a woman and that’s big for me. I am planning on performing gigs around NYC for some extra cash as well.  Just always reminding myself to be kind to myself.

That sounds like a wonderful plan.

As always, I want to thank Christiana for visiting. It was great to catch up and hear everything she had to say. I also want to thank her for sending along the pictures that accompany the interview. They always make for a much better post!

"Forged" Visits Section 36!

Section 36 Music has another visitor! Well I guess, technically, two visitors. This time we talked with Jess and Shauna, founding members of "Forged". The two have seen their music careers flow from songwriters, to a duo, and now to a full band. I was excited that they were willing to talk with us about all of that, and more!

So, let's see what happens when "Forged" visits Section 36!

How did the two of you meet and get together?
We were both asked to sing at a Women's Retreat in 2006.  When we met at our first practice we had instant "music chemistry".  It was so easy to work with each other and we found that our voices and styles blended really well.

How was Forged created?
Forged has heavenly origins.  We both felt like God wanted us to use your gifts in songwriting and vocals in the country music world.  Our name Forged was created by Shauna, she loved the strength of the word.  Forged has multiple definitions; 1-create, 2-make or shape by heating in a fire or furnace and beating or hammering it, 3-to form, 4-to form or make especially by concentrated effort, 5-move forward or take the lead, 6-to make strong steady progress.

Was the transition from “songwriter” to “performer” difficult?
Performing has never been an issue because we both started
singing as kids and didn't start writing until a few years ago.

You've been able to perform at several live shows. What have you liked about those appearances?
We love to do what we love to do lol.  We love being able to share our passion with our fans!

Do you have any upcoming appearances you’re excited about?
We have a few radio appearances TBD and a fundraiser for the local substance abuse recovery center in our hometown, Gates Recovery Center.

I really enjoyed your EP, Burned & Broken. What was it like to put that together?
We realized how much we love being in the studio, watching our music babies come to life.

Have you been working on any other recordings, and when might we be able to hear any results?
We have a lot of music in the works right now.  We have songs that
we have recorded and are still in the process of recording with the sole purpose of pitching them to other artists for them to use.  We are finishing up a new single called, "You Can't Fix Crazy".  Of course we are also writing a ton because we can't stop.

What was it like the first time you heard one of your songs on the radio?
Completely surreal!!!  We have a song that gets played in Boston on 101.7 and we freak out every time we hear it!  We are just so honored that people want to hear our music.

Right now, what would you say is your biggest career challenge?
We have 10 kids combined so that makes everything crazy.  Our other band members have kids also.  So just trying to juggle children's schedules and fitting in times to meet and practice and write is always a challenge but worth it.

What are your immediate career goals?
We have lots of goals and dreams.  We all love performing, so getting more opportunities to get out there.  We hope to get our next single on the radio.  We unanimously all want to see our songs sung by other artists.  Of course we would love to go on tour with Little Big Town haha.

Those are great plans! I can't wait to see how it all works out for them!

As always, I want to thank Jess and Shauna for visiting. It was great to hear everything they both had to say. I also want to thank them for sending along the pictures that accompany the interview. They always make for a much better post!

Since I'm sure you want to follow along with "Forged" to see what they're up to, I suggest you check out and follow their social media accounts: InstagramFacebook, and Twitter.

Thanks again Forged, and good luck with your upcoming activities!

Morgan Dzicek Sang at Fenway for Childhood Cancer Awareness Night

Previously posted on Section 36

On Saturday, the Red Sox held Childhood Cancer Awareness Day at the ballpark. As part of Childhood Cancer Awareness month, the Sox took the opportunity pregame to honor survivors of, or those dealing with, childhood cancer, as well as those helping to find a cure. With their long-standing relationship with the Jimmy Fund, it was certainly a cause the Sox are familiar with.

As part of the ceremony, Morgan Dzicek was given the opportunity to sing the national anthem.

Morgan was the perfect choice, for a few reasons. For one, she is a childhood cancer survivor herself, having been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 13. It took 40 rounds of radiation over the next four years before she was declared cancer free at 17.

Morgan is also currently a member of the New England Patriots Cheerleaders. With the Patriots opening their season the following night, the crossover appeal is obvious.

Finally, Morgan is simply an amazing singer. She's a graduate of Berklee College of Music, and even has her own single on her resume. Released last fall, “Every Step of the Way” is an incredibly beautiful song about her battle with cancer. The video for the song was just released a few days ago. Check it out below.

As we continue to celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, there are naturally several ways you can help out.

Morgan herself is personally passionate about “Make-a-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island”. It was with their help that she was able to record “Every Step of the Way”. But, certainly do whatever you can to help those suffering from the effects of childhood cancer, whether that's through Make-a-Wish, the Jimmy Fund, or another option of your choosing.

I also assume that you're going to want to hear "Every Step of the Way" over and over. I know I did. In that case, you're in luck! It's available on Spotify, apple music, and basically anywhere else you get your favorite music.

Be sure to go find it now!

Sabrina Visits Section 36!

Section 36 Music has its first visitor! You may remember Sabrina from her previous visit with Section 36. This time, we are going to talk all about her music. She recently moved to Nashville to give a boost to her singing career, so I'm sure you're as excited as I am to hear how that's gone and what she has coming up next.

So, let’s see what happens when Sabrina visits Section 36!

You recently moved from Boston to Nashville. What led to that change?
I was able to finish up my classes in the fall semester, but for degree completion I needed to take an internship. So knowing I wanted to come to Nashville I took 9 classes the previous semester to have the Spring semester available for travel. I got my #1 internship at Sawyer and Garner Management which was a wonderful learning experience and am currently with Carnival Music. Moving to Nashville to pursue music has always been my dream so being able to come down here, work on my music, and learn from some of the best in the business is more than I could have asked for.

You’ve had several live performances in the Nashville area recently. What have you enjoyed about those shows?
I have been performing out quite a bit! I love to see the reaction
from people in the audience and it's great to see how your songs read and which ones people seem to like more than others. I also find that every time, as we say in Nashville, I "play-out," that I become a lot more comfortable on stage and showing people my music!

Do you have any upcoming appearances you’re excited about?
I do! I will be performing August 3rd at The Listening Room which is a really amazing place to perform, a lot of great artists have been on that stage and it's not an easy place for someone new to Nashville to book. I will be debuting some originals so it should be a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed the acoustic version of “Sober” you did on video. How was that to put together?
Thank you so much! I actually wrote that song this fall straight from the heart, I'm sure you heard in the intro I talk about how it is about needing to do what is best for you and getting yourself out of toxic situations which can be easier said than done! Sky Corban is a Nashville songwriter I play-out with quite a bit who accompanies me and he spiced up the existing chords for me which makes the song a little more interesting in my opinion. I have always sung "Sober" acoustic but it is definitely a song I plan on putting out soon with some more upbeat production!

In addition to live shows, you’ve been in the studio quite a bit lately. What have you been working on, and when will we be able to hear the results of those sessions?
This July I am going to start giving some teasers for my single "U-Turn" coming out August 3rd! I'm super excited about it because not only will it be my first single but seems to be a fan favorite when I perform!

Right now, what would you say is your biggest career challenge?
My biggest career challenge would have to be putting myself out there and finding the right people to work with. You want people on your team who believe just as much in your music as you do, fit your sound, and have a vision, not who are just going through the motions. This is something I think will come with time though, I have had the opportunity to work with some pretty talented people so far and am very grateful.

What are your immediate career goals?
My immediate career goals are to keep performing and being able to get my music out there because I would love for people to hear what I have been working on! I also recently signed with The Block Agency so I am looking forwarding to receiving bookings and being able continue modeling and acting in Nashville.

----

That sounds so exciting. I can't wait to see how it goes for her!

As always, I want to thank Sabrina for visiting. It was wonderful to hear everything that's happening to her. I also want to thank her for sending along the pictures that accompany the interview. They always make for a better post!

Since I'm sure you also want to follow along with Sabrina's career, I suggest you check out her social media accounts...Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Of course you could also check out Sabrina's Section 36 Music page. There you'll find more links, pictures, and some of her music. It's a great way to enjoy all things Sabrina.

Thanks again Sabrina, and good luck with your upcoming events!
