Reese Nobile Visits Section 36 Music!

Section 36 Music has another visitor! Reese Nobile is a fantastic singer whose debut single, "Ready To Run", definitely points to big things ahead. I was thrilled that she was willing to visit with us and discuss her music, future goals, and more. I’m sure you’ll enjoy everything she has to say.

So, let's see what happens when Reese Nobile visits Section 36 Music!

I absolutely loved your debut single, “Ready To Run”. What can you tell me about it?

First of all, thank you so much! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it! I have always wanted to make music but the timing never felt right and I was really adamant on feeling really good about what I was creating. I wrote Ready To Run soon after moving to Boston and I got really lucky to have met the most incredible people who helped me bring it to life. We had so much fun doing it!!! The best way to describe what the song means to me is feeling disposable in a relationship that I thought was indestructible. 

When you have the opportunity, what do you enjoy most about performing in front of a live audience?

The best part of music in general is having the opportunity to activate, aid, or enhance any emotion you feel. I’ve always thought that music is the most magical medicine to exist. The best part about performing live, outside of it being so much fun, is being able to connect with listeners. I’ve always wanted to be able to create that escape for somebody else! I love everything about playing live music, but my favorite part are the moments where I can see someone fully absorbed in the moment from the music I am playing. It is so special! 

You are currently attending Berklee College of Music. What’s the biggest thing Berklee has done for your career?

Everyone says that the best part of Berklee is the environment and the people that you meet. I couldn’t agree any more. I could have never imagined I would have a band, a manager, and people who believed in me enough to help bring my projects to life. All of the people I have met have taught me the most important things I have learned so far at Berklee about myself and the industry.

Who or what would you consider your biggest musical influences?

My biggest musical influences would definitely have to be Stevie Nicks, Bôa, and Lana Del Rey though I find inspiration from all different artists and genres of music.

What would you say is your biggest career challenge?

My biggest challenge is definitely myself. As they all say, you are your own worst enemy. Especially being surrounded by so many talented people at Berklee, it is so easy to question your talent, think you are not good enough, or wonder if you have anything to offer to the industry. What helps me through this is to remind myself of why I am pursuing music and how much I love what I am doing. I allow that to be the fuel to the fire! 

What are your immediate career goals?

My next single is in the production stages right now and my goal is to release it by the end of summer! I would also love to start playing live shows more often to expand out of the Berklee/Boston bubble as well as release my first EP which is in the works right now!

Adia Clark Lay Visits Section 36 Music!

Section 36 Music has another visitor! Adia Clark Lay is an incredible singer who recently released a fantastic single, "Brown Eyes". I was so excited that she was willing to visit with us and discuss her music, future goals, and more. I’m sure you’ll enjoy everything she has to say.

I’m a huge fan of your recent single “Brown Eyes”. What can you tell me about it?

Brown Eyes is about a "situationship" turned bad. It talks about the struggle of wanting someone so bad and them just not returning the feelings. It also discusses the idea of not knowing exactly why you are so infatuated with someone. 

What was your favorite part of the recording process?

My favorite part of the recording process was getting to work with my amazing producer, Arin Ruiz (aka ArodB3ats), a fellow student of mine at Berklee College of Music. As a singer and guitarist, it was a very cool experience to work with a drummer and producer; coming up with harmonies and watching him add different instruments and synth to the song.

You are currently attending Berklee College of Music. What’s the biggest thing Berklee has done for your career?

It has provided me with the opportunity to meet so many talented musicians, perform and make connections around Boston, and take classes about things I've dreamed about since I was a little girl.

Who or what would you consider your biggest musical influences?

Absolutely and 100% Taylor Swift. My parents gave me the choice between guitar and piano lessons when I was little, and I chose guitar so I could grow up and be just like her! My family has ALWAYS supported all of my passions, especially music. They have fueled my creativity and made me the musician I am today, able to attend one of the best music schools in the world and having released two singles!

What would you say is your biggest career challenge?

There are so many talented people out there, I just hope I can be seen through the crowds and make a huge difference with my music.

What are your immediate career goals?

My immediate career goals are to release an EP (which will be COMING SOON!) and to continue to write songs that mean so much to me.

Signe Levin Visits Section 36 Music!

Section 36 Music has another visitor! Signe Levin is a wonderful singer fresh off the release of her latest single, "Into The Sand". I was thrilled that she was willing to visit with us and discuss her music, future goals, and more. I’m sure you’ll enjoy everything she has to say.

So, let's see what happens when Signe Levin visits Section 36 Music!

Your recent single, “Into the Sand” is simply fantastic. What can you tell me about it?

Thank you! I wrote ”Into The Sand” in the bedroom of my family cabin in Southern Sweden when I went back home over winter break. Being surrounded by the stillness of nature, I found myself having a lot of time to reflect on everything I experienced during my first semester abroad and it inspired me to create this song. ”Into The Sand” explores the concept of falling too deeply in love with someone, and the fear of that love being unrequited, having it ”run into the sand”. It’s definitely one of the more vulnerable songs I’ve written, and it allowed me to explore sides of my songwriting that I haven’t really shared before. So I’m beyond grateful to everyone who has listened!

Having released both this song, and your previous EP, what is your favorite part of the recording process?

Growing up in a very musical family, being in the studio has always felt like a second home to me. I’m very lucky to be able to record a lot together with my dad, which is incredibly fun! I think my favorite part of the recording process is seeing how a song can grow from just an idea into something bigger, as well as the creative freedom I feel whenever I’m in the studio. There’s something special about being in that space that makes me feel the most like myself as a writer and artist.

You are currently attending Berklee College of Music. What’s the biggest thing Berklee has done for your career?

Berklee is a wonderful place! I’ve learned so much in my first year, not just about music but also about people and different cultures. I think just being surrounded by so many talented and inspiring musicians has been an incredible learning experience, and I’ve had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with some amazing people! Having industry professionals as professors at the school and being able to partake in different events and concerts has definitely opened my eyes to parts of the industry I didn’t know as much about before.

Who or what would you consider your biggest musical influences?

I’ve always considered Joni Mitchell and The Beatles two of my biggest musical influences, but I also love Nick Drake and more contemporary artists such as Clairo, Phoebe Bridgers, Lizzy McAlpine and beabadoobee. Growing up, I spent a lot of time singing in choirs and playing classical violin, so I think part of my identity as a songwriter has also been influenced by that.

 

What would you say is your biggest career challenge?

I’d say one of my biggest career challenges is finding a balance between staying true to my artistic vision and keeping up with the ever-changing trends in the industry. As a singer/songwriter, I strive to create music that is authentic and meaningful to me, but I also recognize the importance of realizing the preferences and demands of the popular music industry. I guess that’s always going to be a challenge, but staying true to what inspires me and acknowledging the fact that I will also grow and change as a musician over time is important I think. 

What are your immediate career goals?

There’s so much I want to do! Releasing more music is definitely one of my main goals right now, and I’m planning on releasing an EP this summer, so I’m very excited about that! I’d also love to release an album further down the line. For now, I want to continue establishing myself as a writer and artist both in Sweden and the US, and hopefully create music that makes people feel something!

"Art Unites Us All" - a Project from Domina Monriel

Today is the International Day of Living Together in Peace. It also marks the two-year anniversary of the "Art Unites Us All" release. This amazing project was created by Domina Monriel, so I’ll use her words to tell you about it…

“[It is] an original multimedia project featuring 210 artists from all over the world; 105 musicians, 79 dancers and 26 Painters & Photographers and supported by 7 universal organizations.

This international collaboration illuminates the ways in which art, despite turbulent times, global borders, professions and personalities, unites us all and lights the path for us to live together in peace, by embracing the diversity that makes each one of us unique.”
